The other day representatives of Jugend denkt um.welt went to see the mayor and took part in a conference which was held in the Municipality building of our town.

The ambassadors wanted to make the green thinking popular among the politicians and influential people of the town and told them about our project, RIO+20 conference and what it is about and the fact that climate ambassadors all around the world tie green wristbands symbolizing the green thinking and the idea of changing our world for the better.

At the end every attender of the conference received a green wristband and we hope it will make them think about those stuff we try to implement.

You can watch the video from the conference here: https://vimeo.com/45652295

The last weeks are pretty tough for Bulgaria, because of the protests which have been spread all over the country. The main reason – the law for protecting the forests has been drastically changed. The government wants to clear some forests and to broaden the winter facilities such as cable cars, ski runs and at all the ski resorts. Many non-governmental organisations and unions have joined forces in order to protest against this law and to protect the nature of Bulgaria. For the status quo only 20 % of the forests here are state-owned and protected! The non-governmental wants to save at least what is left!

On the other hand there are anti-protest of the main one. This so called “antiprotest” supports the changes in the law. The people who state this say that they just want an opening of new places for work.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of misunderstandings. The government wants its profit and foreign investments, some people want work, other people want to save the nature. Of course, there won’t be one-sided decision, but we do hope that whatever it is happening and whatever it will happen it will be all in favour of our Bulgarian nature.

The new superhero Ecoman launched the campaign “Do not throw hazardous waste away – it is dangerous.” The event started on July 17th in South Park Sofia and proceeded as a festival for children and grown-ups. Partners of the event were Sofia Municipality, the Ministry of Environment and Water of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Association of Recycling and the International Children’s Summer Camp LuckyKids.

Educational games, competitions and quizzes were accompanied by musical and dance performances. The people to attend the event were also able to see various practical demonstrations. The useful information was presented to the children in a very accessible and attractive way – thanks to the specially invented new superhero Ecoman. All participants received educational books resembling comics about his adventures. The event launched a competition, which the children can take part in, by sending their ideas for further stories with Ecoman. The contest will continue until June 24th.

The campaign “Do not throw hazardous waste away – it is dangerous” is aimed at the children and its main goal is to create a responsible attitude to the storage and disposal of hazardous waste and to teach separate waste collection and recycling to the young generation.

The week we spent in Wolfsburg was definitely a very useful experience for the Bulgarian
team. As a whole, we can separate our findings into two groups.
First of all, we learnt a lot of new things during the lectures which have broaden our minds
and have made us see concrete problems in a completely different light. We were given
the chance to meet so many important people who have a great contribution to raising the
society’s awareness about climate issues and to developing modern technologies which
not only will make our everyday life easier but will also be environmentally friendly. We
enjoyed interesting speeches full of both alarming facts and optimistic expectations. And,
of course, we worked in international teams. In this case our collaboration was not equal to
disorganization, but it turned out to be a unique diversity of ideas and fruitful discussions.
That’s why meeting new people and making friends is the thing we regard as essential
for our stay in Germany. In the leisure time we all were together and had fun. We will not
forget these wonderful days and nights around the shore of the Bernsteinsee, the campfire, the dances and the songs outside (and inside) the Autostadt. The action on the streets of Wolfsburg and Hanover was a great experience as well, because it was a mixture of social experiment and creativity and enabled us to have a personal contact with the citizens, to hear their opinion, to see their reactions, to make our conclusions and probably to organize it again in Bulgaria.
There can be no doubt that youthinkgreen was our incentive to give our share and take
part in the global struggle against climate issues. During the week in Germany we were
encouraged to embark on our local project and, moreover, to apply all the things we learnt
so that the results are satisfying. In addition to this, we are now more confident to continue
along the same lines.
John Lennon sang: “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…” Well, we do
definitely are not the only ones!

Over 322,000 people cleaned up more than 2,500 dirty areas and more than 530 illegal dumps in the national share of 12 May. And 2410 involved companies, 1,400 schools, over 500 organizations, 30 universities and others. Bulgarian volunteers in the campaign “Cleaning Bulgaria for one day!” were the most active in the Balkans.
Many people participated, including famous movie stars, singers and politicians.
We, the climate ambassadors from Youthinkgreen, also put a lot of effort to clean up the country. It is quite positive that most people can realize if we do not save the environment ourselves no one will do it insdead of us.

Rudarzi launches a campaign “Let‘s clean Bulgaria”

The campaign “Let’s clean Bulgaria” is begining. The inhabitants of the Pernik’s village, called Rudarzi have organized themselves first and have cleaned up the rubbish, that until a little while ago had laid under the snow. The main organizer is the Bulgarian National Television (BTV). The clearing has begun this morning (1.04.2012) at 9.00 o’colck. The Rudarzi’s inhabitants went out, equiped with brooms, spades and shovels. Even small childer participated in the campaign. The problem of the village and of the most built-up areas hier is that the containers are a less and they are seldom being emptied. So the unregulated dumping-grounds are increasing continually and the homeless dogs spread the rubbish everywhere. The big cleaning of Bulgaria is forthcoming on 12th Mai.
