Two big protests in one week

The last weeks are pretty tough for Bulgaria, because of the protests which have been spread all over the country. The main reason – the law for protecting the forests has been drastically changed. The government wants to clear some forests and to broaden the winter facilities such as cable cars, ski runs and at all the ski resorts. Many non-governmental organisations and unions have joined forces in order to protest against this law and to protect the nature of Bulgaria. For the status quo only 20 % of the forests here are state-owned and protected! The non-governmental wants to save at least what is left!

On the other hand there are anti-protest of the main one. This so called “antiprotest” supports the changes in the law. The people who state this say that they just want an opening of new places for work.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of misunderstandings. The government wants its profit and foreign investments, some people want work, other people want to save the nature. Of course, there won’t be one-sided decision, but we do hope that whatever it is happening and whatever it will happen it will be all in favour of our Bulgarian nature.
